In January, Norcross’ solid waste provider increased recycling fees by $.72 per residential customer, per month. The cost to the city is $43,667.

The residential single-stream curbside recycling processing charge being passed on to the city by the contractor is due to contamination, recycling commodities markets down on a global basis, and China’s new policy of not accepting recyclables from the United States.

The Norcross City Council recently approved a recycling fee increase to recoup the additional charges. The city will bill the Jan. through August 2020 recycling fees in Sept. and pre-bill Sept. 2020 through August 2021 recycling fees at the same time. The increase will result in $17.28 added to each bill this September.
